Right-Wing ExtremismNationalists set fire to apartment: Riots during Independence Day march in Warsaw

Several tens of thousands of people took part in the nationalist Independence Day march in Warsaw on 11.11.2020.

Participants repeatedly attacked police officers and threw pyrotechnics at apartment buildings with rainbow flags or symbols of the women’s strike movement. One apartment was set on fire to the cheers of some participants. One participant shouted, for example: “Don’t put it out, let the whore burn!”. The march had been banned in advance because of the Corona pandemic. Nevertheless, many hooligans and right-wing extremist groups followed the call of the right-wing extremist organizers. The neo-fascist ONR (Obóz Narodowo-Radykalny/National Radical Camp), the youth organization MW (Młodzież Wszechpolska/All-Polish Youth) and the party Ruch Narodowy showed up with banners and flags. Flags of the Italian FN (Forza Nuova) and the Spanish DN (Democracia Nacional) were also displayed. Unlike in previous years, there was no closed black bloc of autonomous nationalists. Hooligans clashed violently with the police into the evening hours.
