On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, Ursula Mertens, presiding judge at the Naumburg Higher Regional Court, opened the main hearing against the suspected assassin of Halle with a delay of almost two hours.
ReadThe second day of the trial began with reading letters from Stephan B.’s relatives by the defense, according to which all family members of the accused – father, mother and sister – who had been summoned as witnesses would make use of their right to refuse testimony.
ReadOn the third day of the trial, the questioning of the accused was continued by the representatives of the co-plaintiffs.
ReadSix family members and acquaintance of the accused were summoned to the fourth day of the trial.

ReadOn September 16, 2020, on the 13th day of the Halle trial, two joint plaintiffs testified, who were in the synagogue in Halle on October 9, 2019.
ReadOn September 23, 2020, on the 15th day of the Halle trial, a total of six witnesses testified.
ReadOn the 16th day of the trial, ballistics and forensic experts, a survivor of the attack and police officers who had arrested the alleged attacker were heard as witnesses.
ReadOn the 17th day of the trial, several law enforcement officials testified about the attacker’s time in prison.
ReadOn 3 November 2020, the 18th day of the Halle trial, three experts and a survivor from the synagogue testified.
ReadOn 4 November 2020, the 19th day of the Halle trial, expert witness Karolin Schwarz and Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) official Sebastian E. testified regarding the public perception of the attack and the online distribution of the video of the crime as well as the files found on the accused’s laptop and data storage devices.
ReadOn 17 November 2020, on the 20th day of the Halle trial, Benjamin Steinitz, Managing Director of the Association of Antisemitism Research and Information Centers (RIAS), testified as an expert on the effects of the Halle attack on Jewish life in Germany.
ReadAs the last witness of the trial, the sociologist Matthias Quent was heard as an expert witness.
ReadOn December 1, 2020, the 22nd day of proceedings in the Halle trial, nine representatives of the joint plaintiffs gave their closing statements.
ReadOn December 2, 2020, during the short 23rd day of the Halle trial, the closing arguments of the joint plaintiffs continued.
ReadOn the 24th day of the Halle trial on December 8, 2020, eight joint plaintiffs gave closing statements on the main proceedings against the confessed Halle attacker.
